Abstract

The participation of women in decision-making in peace processes is one of the pillars of
UN Security Council resolution 1325. The Philippines has seen robust women’s participation in the peace negotiations between the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF). In 2014, the parties signed a comprehensive peace agreement
after 17 years of negotiations. The peace agreement was hailed for its strong provisions
on women’s rights as well as for women’s political, social and economic participation.
