This book challenges the field of social movements to expand the scope of its study beyond collective behaviour within state boundaries to include actions that transcend national borders. Many movement activists have recognized that numerous social problems-such as environmental degradation and labor issues-have become globalized and therefore merit a transnational response. This edited volume documents the burgeoning phenomenon of transnational social movement organizations (TSMOs) and their influence on international politics. By offering nine case studies, the book also examines the wide variety of strategies generated and explores how these movements have garnered political leverage that has facilitated global problem solving.
